The Word Only - Blessed be the Name of The LORD

Thus saith the Lord God, I will yet for this be enquired of. Ezek. 36:37

Ye have not, because ye ask not. James 4:2

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Matt. 7:7, 8

This is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. I John 5:14, 15

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5

Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. Psa. 81:10

Men ought always to pray, and not to faint. Luke 18:1

The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. The LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. Psa. 34:15, 17

The Word Only - Victory Through our Lord Jesus Christ.

From Daily Light:

Adam.. begat a son in his own likeness. Gen. 5:3

Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Job 14:4

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Psa. 51:5

Dead in trespasses and sins; ... by nature the children of wrath, even as others. Eph. 2:1, 3

Comfort One Another..

Well, I’m not sure if I’ll publish this, but I wanted to write my thoughts down.. about grief. 
Grief is a curious thing, it creeps upon you in the most unexpected ways at times, and overwhelms. 
It is thus for me at this moment.. 

Our grief can be about many things, at the moment mine is for my dad. 

My dad was very, very dear to me, he passed in early Aug 2018. As I was the only one of his children in town I took him out the most. I came to know him, and much about him that I did not know before these one on one times with him, after he went into the nursing home. 

I shouldn’t really be sad as dear, sweet, precious, darling dad is with our wonderful loving LORD. 
(Dad’s very brief salvation post, see HERE.) 
What a comfort it is to know this .. what joy divine it is to have this blessed hope! 
Love this passage below, don’t you?

It’s singing in my heart at the moment, that sea photo I took with darling dad last year.
Especially resting in the “Wherefore comfort one another with THESE words.”!
I think I may share this post as it may bless someone, who is really struggling with grief or with some sort of loss at the moment. 
Dark moments can be all enveloping - until we cry out to the LORD.
Once His light shines, then hope revives! 
There is hope! 
There is light, there is a brighter day! 
“Amen, even so come, LORD Jesus.”

Glory to His Name Alone!

Dear ones, I am reminded...

Jeremiah 9

Vs 23 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

Vs 24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.

This text is one I did about ten years ago on vellum. Very hard to work on. I love these verses. 

They remind us of our foibles.. our tendency to love the praise of men. I did this text in a secular non believing group of calligraphers. I wonder now whether they thought on the words or simply looked at it as art. I suspect the latter.

Jeremiah lamented that they the people of his day did not honour God and give Him praise. 

May we recall that we are nothing.
For example the skill used to create this illuminated text is God's gift! Not of me..
So when one praises me for it I should point them to the Lord, the Giver of every good and perfect gift.

As Job said, I abhor myself!

Job 42:1-6:

"Then Job answered the Lord , and said, I know that thou canst do every thing , and that no thought can be withholden from thee.

Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. 

I have heard of Thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth Thee. 

Wherefore I abhor myself , and repent in dust and ashes."

O Lord help us to keep a heavenly perspective. To see things as you see them. 

And give you the honour and praise before men.  In all things. Amen.

He Cares for You

February 2 MORNING
"Daily Light"
Oh that thou wouldest keep me from evil. I Chron. 4:10

The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. Psa. 121:7

I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible. Jer. 15:21

He that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. I John 5:18

Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Rev. 3:10

The LORD knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations. II Pet. 2:9
How faithful is our precious Father God?
He sees our heartache, our groanings, knows loves and cares for each intimate detail.
He will never leave us nor forsake us.

The Right way - The Word Only

He found [Jacob] in a desert land, 
and in the waste howling wilderness; 
He led him about, 
He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of his eye. 
As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, 
spreadeth abroad her wings, 
taketh them, beareth them on her wings:

 O give thanks unto the Lord , for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Biography - Lady Jane Grey - Nine Day Queen of England - by Faith Cook.

One of my favourite biographers is Faith Cook. She was the daughter of China Inland Missionaries and had a varied upbringing. However her love of her Lord flows through her biographies. This was one of the first which I read, a gift from a dear friend. They’re obtained from most bookstores, or online if you’re like me, and none around. You can buy it as ebook too, I think, but I do like a real book in my hands.

Lady Jane Grey has often been called the 'Tudor Pawn' but to see her as one whose life was simply moved around by others is totally inadequate. This is no simplistic life and death of a sixteen-year-old girl. In order to understand the full tragedy and triumph of her life it is vital to grasp the far-reaching political and religious changes that were shaking England at that time.
The Reformation touched the whole population; from palace to university; from emerging town to peasant cottage.
Like the pieces of a jigsaw, the pieces come together to give a picture of a girl with outstanding natural abilities, whose strength of character and remarkable faith shine out despite the darkness that often surrounded her.
Execution at age 16, Jane paid an awful price for a throne she did not seek.

It is an encouraging and inspiring account of an intelligent, strong and faithful young lady, with a zeal for her Lord despite the evil plots of others. It gives details surrounding the efforts of  godly men and women used of the Lord to further the reformation.
Lady Jane Grey had no other ambitions in life other than to advance the gospel.
Despite the hardships of being unloved by her parents and those close to her, the Lord brought increasingly godly men to teach and encourage her to remain strong and even more amazing at such a young age.
Sadly she did not live out her full life span. She understood she was an vessel of the Lord's and He had determined her days.

Her testimony rings down through the centuries, to encourage those who come after,  to be true to their Lord and Saviour, to persist in their own small corner & shine for the Lord.
Her greatest treasure was her small copy of a Greek New Testament. On her last night she inscribed it with these words for her younger sister Katherine:
"I have sent you good sister Katherine, a book which, although it is not outwardly framed with gold, yet inwardly it is of more worth than precious stones. It is the book, dear sister, of the law of the Lord. It is His testament and last will which he bequeathed unto us wretches; which shall lead you into the paths of eternal joys; and if you with good mind read it, and with earnest mind do purpose to follow it, it will bring you an immortal and everlasting life. It shall teach you to live and learn you how to die".
This last statement is even more touching in that the very next day she experienced just that .. how to die.
Even 400 years later we can see into the darkness of the Tower room and see the bright faith of this young woman. Her words on scaffold included:
" I do look to be saved by no other means but by the mercy of God in the blood of His only Son Jesus Christ."
Her faith rang out against popery and faith by works of the era of Queen Mary, the Catholic Queen.

It's a good thing to look to these heros and heroines of the faith. They give our life perspective.
As they were weak, but strong in Jesus, so can we likewise follow on! 

".. Not by might, nor by power but by my spirit saith the Lord."  Zechariah 4:6b

I am with thee - the Word Only

The LORD shall guide thee continually, 

and satisfy thy soul in drought, 

and make fat thy bones: 

and thou shalt be like a watered garden, 

and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

For this God is our God for ever and ever: 

He will be our guide even unto death.

A Coming King

As believers Prayer and Word are essential to our life and spiritual growth. There is another necessary aspect to our daily walk.

That's the upward look!

Part of my life verse is: 

Hebrews 12:2

"Looking unto Jesus ..."

Life Passage is verses 1 - 6. 

Look at them. How rich are they! Hebrews 12:1-6

"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us , and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

 [2] Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

[3] For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

[4] Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

[5] And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

[6] For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

**Verse 1 ".. surrounded or encompassed by so  great cloud of witnesses" ... watching us! 

Who are they? 

See passage  before ->

The previous chapter Hebrews 11 is the FAITH chapter. 

It speaks of those who've walked in Faith before us - these are witnesses of earthly battles.

**  Key part of this verse is the laying aside of the sin that does so easily beset us, trip us up ... doing it daily, moment by moment.

SO important!

**THEN we can have the upward look.. "looking unto Jesus "

He is Author and Finisher. 

When He cried on the cross "it is finished"  He finished the perfecting of our salvation.

 "It is finished" = our salvation was paid! For us all and for all eternity.

** Verse 3: "CONSIDER HIM lest ye grow weary and faint in your minds."

Need perspective?

Consider Him.

Think it's hard going, you've it really tough?

Consider Him.

Look into that thorn-scarred face, look at those nail-scarred feet hands, that spear-thrust side! 

Been spat upon, beaten, buffeted, mocked, in a purple robe lately?

"Consider Him"...

Our discipline (verses 5, 6) is really, really good.

Those hands feet etc show His Love. 

As do the hard things in my life, God has a higher end in view than my earthly view.

Hard is definitely not enjoyable.

But hard is really, really good for us spiritually.

According to #Horatius Bonar, a Scottish hymn-writer:

"Suffering is the family badge of all true believers as they follow Christ, the Man of Sorrows."

"In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." 

1 Thess. 5:18 

Think your way is hard?

Yes! it really, really is.

However, we are not beaten or killed for our faith. The tongue hurts, the load we bear is so unfair and so heavy, the illness so debilitating, but its all temporal, temporary!

I'm realising more and more how little time we have.

We are but a BLINK compared to eternity. 

But we're a redeemed, blood-bought child by faith in Jesus.

Precious.

Hard things = discipline = learning = very good.

As I've had medically 6 close calls, the brevity of life, that it may end with my chronic condition at any time is something I've lived with since mid teens. The last time July 2016 (see here), through these times I've learnt so much.

I would never change one thing .. even the hard, sad, bad things.

God makes it worth it all, as we cling to Him. A child who cleaves to his parent allows nothing to come between.

This is walking as Jesus walked. He is our coming King!

Let us never ever forget that and live everyday of our life as if it was today He was coming!

"Look up and be ready to go up!" (Bro. Mac.)

"Amen, even so come, Lord Jesus."

It is no accident that these words are included at the end of last chapter in our Bible (Rev 22: 20.)

God wants us to have the upward look, looking with joy to the coming King of Kings.

The Word Only

We have ... a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts. II Pet. 1:19

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psa. 119:105
