Do we want "Power in prayer"?
Then look to the lovely LORD Jesus - He is our example .. especially in His prayer of John 17 (link)! This whole chapter is intercession on behalf of those who believe in Him, you and me by faith in Christ. His deep love is so evident. Not judgemental like my prayers are often.. but such love, compassion, understanding. Yes, He is God. We though as believers have the Holy Spirit of God, by faith in the Lord Jesus, as our Guide and Help.
Then I read verse 22:
"the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one"
As I read that I simply breathed: "Wow!" His glory is ours, by faith alone in Jesus!
Will we ever fully understand that before heaven?
1 Corinthians 13:12
"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."
We will see much more, understand much more than we get at this very moment in time.
That's what grace is.
... "grace, according to the measure of gift of Christ."
Ephesians 4:7
"But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ."
However, grace like salvation must be appropriated to be ours..
*taken
*used
*applied by a willing, broken heart at the foot of the cross.
Am I truly willing I ask myself?
Always I seem to be holding back a little (or sometimes even a lot)...
I John 3:2
"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as He is."
One day it will all be plain.
".. O the joy when I shall wake in the presence of the King.
And I shall see Him face to face...
.. Some day, till then I'll watch & wait,
My lamp all trimmed and burning bright,
That when my Savior I will greet,
My faith will then be changed to sight."
Yes, we are faithful waiting servants of Jesus, if we are indeed serving as best we can, with hearts glad to be where God has put us. That's real everyday faith at work.
So let us each and every day given us - *LOOK up and be ready to go up... our lamps all trimmed and burning bright!
This little light of mine I'm going to let it shine!
Anchor your heart in Word and prayer.
Praise our great God for His grace sufficient for you and me! As we take (appropriate for ourselves) His grace, then it IS sufficient for our needs! But not till then.. faith in action, as with salvation. For "when we are weak then we are strong".
Thanks dear ones who've joined this blog and left such encouraging words. You bless my heart so VERY much .. and may God bless these words that they may bless you in turn - even more than they have me.
How rich & blessed we are in Jesus!
I don't know your needs this very moment, but God does. I pray for you in them, for you to learn to lean on Him.

* This saying and the title of this post were common exhortations by a dear faithful prayer warrior, now in glory. Bro Bruce McIntyre (Bro. Mac., from hereon in) was a son of China Inland missionaries. Saved aged 16, he prayed for eight hours a day over a map of the world. He was a great influence in my life and many others. May we likewise be an influence for good and for God.

ReplyDeleteSuch amazing grace he gives to us, and pours out to us, may we in turn give that grace to others!
ReplyDeleteThat quote about His glory being ours... that 'hit' me too! how often God opens the scriptures in new ways to us, as we abide in it, and not just read it to get the days portion done and dusted like some star on a chart!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this blog, dear Shaz
Blessings

We can read so much on how to pray yet very little on listening and receiving prayer. Jesus' prayer for us is enough to bring anyone on their knees in deep gratitude and thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteThank you for another beautiful encouraging post, Shaz. John 17 is one of my favourite chapters in the Bible. There is a lot of stuff spoken today about unity in the church and most of it is not based in the Truth. It is not a question of fudging our doctrinal differences and coming together on a false foundation. Looking back a little further in John 17 to verse 17, Jesus prays, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your Word is truth.” This is the ONLY basis for true unity. The problem is that in much of the modern church, the Word of God has been mistranslated, is being disregarded, misinterpreted, misunderstood, sidelined and ignored. My prayer focus today is for the centrality of the Bible, because it is on this firm foundation that everything else is built, including our true unity.
ReplyDeletePs. 138:2: I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your loving kindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
May the Lord bless you richly,
